Vincent John Laws was born on 17 November 1853, about 10 weeks after his parents and two older siblings arrived in Sydney.
Vincent’s parents, Robert and Charlotte Laws, emigrated from England in search of a better life and arrived aboard the David McIver on 1 September 1853. With them were their two children, Charles and Mary.
Vincent and his twin brother, Bowers Robert, were baptised on 14 October 1855 in Camperdown.
Vincent married Elizabeth Williams in 1887 in Glebe, when he was 34 years old (NSW BDM 2545/1887). The couple had two sons together - Robert and William. Elizabeth died on 7 November 1929 at the age of 74.
Vincent died on 17 June 1933 in Sydney at the age of 79. He is buried with his wife in what is now known as Rookwood Independent Cemetery, Presbyterian section 6D, Grave Number 0008463.

WALES-Probate Jurisdiction-In the Will of VINCENT JOHN LAWS late of 33 Hearn-street Leichhardt in the state of New South Wales Out of Business deceased. Pursuant to the Wills Probate and Administration Act 1898 the Testator’s Family Maintenance and Guardianship of Infants Act 1916 and the Trustee Act 1925 Notice Is here-by given that every creditor and any other person having any claim against the Estate of Vincent John Laws the abovenamed deceased who died on or about the seventeenth day of June last and Probate of whose Will was granted by the Supreme Court of New South Wales In Its Probate Jurisdiction on the fourteenth day of July last past to ROBERT LAWS and WILLIAM LAWS the Executors in the said Will named is hereby required to send particulars In writing of such claim to the said Robert Laws and William Laws in care of the undersigned at their office hereunder mentioned on or before the eighteenth day of October one thousand nine hundred and thirty three at the expiration of which time the said Robert Laws and William Laws will proceed to distribute and convey the assets of the said deceased amongst the persons entitled thereto having re- gard only to the claims of which they have notice And Notice Is hereby further given that the said Robert Laws and William Laws will not be liable for the assets or any part thereof so distributed to any person of whose claim they shall not have had notice at the time of such distribution and conveyance Dated this twelfth day of August 1933 THOMAS GREEN and SON Proctors for the Executors 82 Pitt street Sydney.
