The Bent Family
Richard Bent > Thomas Bent > William Bent > Norman Faulkner Bent > Norman Frederick Bent > Norman Hector Bent > Michael Bent > Felicity Bent
The Bent family seems to have originated in Billesdon, Leicestershire. The first record I have is of Richard Bent who was born there in 1749.
Bent was a common surname and there are many Bents listed in the area.
Richard Bent's son, Thomas Bent, and Thomas's son, William, were also born in Billesdon.
The 1841 census shows William as a publican in Leicestershire and we know that he moved from Billesdon to London sometime before 1850, where his son, Norman Faulkner Bent was born. Norman Faulkner's son, Norman Frederick, was also born in London and immigrated to Sydney, Australia.
Norman Frederick's son, Norman Hector Bent, was born in Birkenhead in Cheshire and immigrated to Sydney with his family, arriving on 2 January 1916.
Norman Hector Bent's son, Michael John Bent, was born in Sydney in 1937 and still lives there.

William Bent was born in 1812 in Billesdon. The 1841 census has him as a publican [1] so I'm keen to find out whether the pub he managed still exists however so far I have not been able to find records before 1846 [2].
In 2015, there are only two pubs in Billesdon: The Queen's Head (existed in 1851) and the Old Greyhound (existed in 1846) [2].
The White Hart existed in 1851 [2] and was described in 1964 as "an early-19th-century coaching inn)[3]. Unfortunately I don't know who the publican was in 1841. I'm sure the UK Census records would show this but access requires a paid subscription.
