Mary Wilson
Mary Winifred Wilson was the youngest child of Winifred (nee Seery) and William Wilson.
She was born on 4 June 1866 in Tarlo, in the Goulburn area of New South Wales (NSW BDM 8569/1866). Her father, William, had come to New South Wales from America in search of gold.
Mary's mother, Winifred, had previously been married to John Manton with whom she had a son, also called John Manton. Winifred and John seem to have parted company sometime between 1854 and 1856.
Little is known of Mary's life except that the family appears to have moved the Woodhouselee/Tarlo area around 1862 or 1863. We know from family stories that William was a farmer in the Woodhouselee area and that he was, at one stage, reasonably prosperous, with each of his children having cattle of their own. Apparently their fortunes changed at some time after this, perhaps due to drought.
There was a school in Tarlo from at least 1864 so it is possible Mary and her siblings attended it.
Mary married Joseph Chuck in the Goulburn area in 1895 when she was about 30-years-old (NSW BDM 1066/1895). Note that her name is recorded as "Meary M Wilson". She died in 1896 and her death was registered in Goulburn (NSW BDM 3544/1896). Given her age and the time she died in relation to her marriage, she may have died in childbirth.
