Cotta Walla is a farming area near Crookwell in New South Wales. It appears to have existed with that name since the 1850s but was later called Cotton Valley. It is now once more known as Cotta Walla. I assume the name is Aboriginal and that the white settlers used the name for the sake of convenience. It may have been changed later when it was considered more desirable to have a non-indigenous name and then changed back in more recent times to honour the first inhabitants of the area.
Cotta Walla is now known as 'Roslyn'. https://museum.hall.act.au/display/1939/person/2479/matilda-thompson.html

In 1875, the residents of Woodhouselee and Cotta Walla applied to the NSW Government to have schools opened in these areas. The application for a school at Woodhouselee was granted in 1876 [1].
In 2018, Cotta Walla appears to be just an area (rather than a town or village), with a few houses centred around Cotta Walla Lane. The old school house still exists and is located in Cotta Walla Lane which is off Goulburn Road.
